Recognizing Extraordinary Educators: The Early Childhood Educator Award

4C for Children would like to recognize the amazing educators that impact children on a daily basis. This is the inaugural year for the award which will be given out annually at the 4C Leadership and Early Childhood Conference.

The Early Childhood Educator Award was created to celebrate the impact that educators have on our youngest children and their families. This includes those who work directly with children in the following settings: family child care programs, preschool programs (public or private), child care centers, school-age programs, or Head Start. This honor is designed to recognize educators based on the following criteria:

  • Relationship building with children, families and peers
  • Supporting the vision of the early childhood education profession
  • Innovation and creativity in the classroom
  • Professional growth and development

Relationships: Early childhood educators know and understand that all learning occurs in relationships. This educator demonstrates skills in creating positive relationships with children, families, and peers.

Vision: A successful educator embodies the vision of the early childhood profession. The foundation of the early childhood profession is based on developmentally appropriate practice and influenced by the NAEYC position statements. By aligning his/her practices to the vision, s/he creates a successful and positive environment for children and families and sets them up for success on a daily basis.

Innovation: Not only is this educator well versed in developmentally appropriate practice, s/he also looks outside the box to create new and innovative ways to assist children and families in their education success.

Professionalism: This individual strives to learn more about early childhood education and continues to improve upon skills until a mastery level is accomplished. This educator shares his/her new knowledge with colleagues and utilizes reflective practice to better the program as a whole.
